Weston Renovation

How One Couple Expanded Their Space with Marvin Modern

Optimized for Entertaining

As part of a complete home renovation, this Weston, Massachusetts couple wanted to create an open living space for entertaining. They had worked with Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, Inc. in the past to create a screened-in porch for their home, and reached out to the firm again in early 2020.

This time, they hoped to emulate the open, natural feeling of their screened-in porch within the walls of their home. The newly released Marvin Modern collection provided the perfect solution for their goals and preferred style.

The largest undertaking of this renovation was to transform a former seating area into a spacious dining room, complete with a rustic fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows. The addition allowed the couple to expand their kitchen as well, and enhance their living room and office spaces.

Their new floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as newly installed skylights from Velux fill the space with natural light and provide this family with a year-round connection to the outdoors.

These Marvin Modern windows seamlessly integrate their dining space with their yard built for entertaining. With a lap pool, water feature, cabana area, and more, the landscape architects at Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, Inc. optimized the yard of this Weston home for outdoor hosting.

Classic Massachusetts Meets Marvin Modern

This Weston couple had a strong preference for a modern style, but had to consider the more traditional New England style windows remaining in other parts of the house.

To tie these contrasting aesthetics together, the experts at JB Sash helped the couple select new windows for the kitchen that were more transitional in style. The result is the perfect blend of quintessential New England and breath-takingly contemporary.

The Marvin Modern line was brand new at the time of this Weston renovation, and this couple was the first to incorporate these products into the design of their home. They had a foundation of trust with the architects, though, who in turn had a longstanding relationship with JB Sash, and knew they could rely on the quality of the products and service.

“We know that when we work with JB Sash, they’re not just a supplier,” says Joshua Engel, Designer at Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, Inc. “They become a partner in how we achieve success with a product.”
